About DCOM

The Delaware District Committee on Ministry (DCOM) is established to discern candidates' fitness and readiness for ministry. As such, the committee's primary task is evaluative. The committee is committed to supporting you in this process through prayer and constructive feedback. Understand that not every person who feels called to ministry within the United Methodist Church is discerned to be fit or ready for ministry.

The Delaware District DCOM must be fully convinced of a candidate's readiness and fitness for ministry before it can recommend to certify a candidate to the Conference Board of Ordained Ministry or recommend continuance as a Licensed Local Pastor or Certified Lay Minister. The responsibility for understanding and following this process lies with the candidate. Ask questions and make use of the UMC Book of Discipline, your local pastor and your mentor.

Since the earliest days of John Wesley, a strong emphasis has been placed on high standards
of educational accomplishment and Christian behavior. Those standards are still applicable today. Successful completion of an UMC approved seminary Masters of Divinity or Course of Study is generally required. In addition, the Delaware District DCOM adopted the use of the Pen-Del Conference Technical Writer's Rubric to provide for a standards definition of acceptable written material.

Technical Writer's Link

A minimum score of 3 is required of all Interview Materials submitted in order to be considered. Technical writers can be requested if needed. Credit checks, criminal background checks and a psychological evaluation are absolutely required.

DCOM members are comprised of Ordained Deacons, Ordained Elders and lay persons from around the Delaware District committed to seeking God's guidance at work on the most qualified and Spirit anointed persons to enter into ministry within our conference. They serve at the invitation and pleasure of the District Superintendent and are led by a Chairperson and a Registrar. Please feel free to submit any questions or comments you may have for the committee at this link: (Contact Us).
